Our customers are designing the next generation of fuel-efficient jet engines, lifesaving drugs, and intelligent cities.
We’re based in downtown Chicago at 1871 and at the Polsky Exchange. We use parallel programming and distributed computing tools from the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory.
We launched in Summer ‘15 and have made great progress on product and customer development. But we are the very epitome of early stage! About the role.
We are looking for a dynamic application developer with a passion for parallel computing systems. The focus of this role will be to develop turnkey modeling, simulation and big data applications on our highly parallel, distributed cloud computing platform to solve real world problems for our customers. You’ll implement fully automated parallel workflows in fields ranging from materials science, civil engineering, bioengineering, building design, and city planning. You’ll ensure your solutions stand up to extreme-scale parallel resources and big data applications, and meet the needs of our customers.
But your work won’t stop there. You’ll be among the first engineers on our team, and have the opportunity to contribute to the development and vision of this advanced technical computing platform.
There’s no “Typical Day” at Parallel Works.
You’ll work closely with co-founders, colleagues, customers, and partners to build and deploy flexible, powerful simulation workflow tools that will transform engineering and product design practices. You will have the opportunity to lay the groundwork for the platform’s valuable tool center as you work with the team to build out innovative solutions and workflow frameworks to populate our marketplace. You’ll work with customers to understand their businesses and build both proprietary and open tools that address their issues. You’ll develop a solid understanding of select customer verticals and apply insights that lead to innovative solutions. You’ll build tools that change the way engineers work and empower them through large scale parallel computing. And you’ll work with a great team to bring this innovative technology to life.
What we’re looking for.
We are looking for engineers from diverse fields with industry experience using parallel simulation tools and leading CAE frameworks.
- 3 - 5 years of academic and/or industry experience in mechanical, civil, aerospace, materials or biomedical engineering
- Solid experience with a dynamic scripting language like Python, Bash, or R. MATLAB experience would be a plus.
- Significant experience with simulation methods including optimization, mathematical programming, uncertainty quantification, and agent based modeling.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and flexibility in applying knowledge to new domains
- Skills of interest: fluid dynamics, finite element, heat transfer, molecular dynamics, materials science, image analysis, biomedical, and financial engineering.
